Mrs. Stahl and Mrs. Pecora’s 5th grade class started the “Ripple Project” back in September 2016 as a sort of “Pay it Forward’ movement/ initiative. Since then, the class has partnered and engage a pen pal with a Kindergarten class, in which they created and gave the Kindergarten students magic wands, and reminded the students that the magic of being kind and generous starts with them and not in a Fairy Tale. The class also designed the T-shirts they are wearing in the photo to recognize and be reminded of the experiences the characters endeavored throughout the book ‘Wonder’. This class wears their T- shirt each week to inspire peers and others throughout the building to remember to give and be kind, while engaging in various creative acts of kindness throughout the year. Most recently the class partnered with Bartle’s E.P.I.C. (Encouraging Positivity & Inspiring Change) initiative and engaged a pet food drive/fundraiser for abandoned animals living in a ‘No Kill’ animal shelter. Of the many goals and/or objectives established by the teachers and students in this class, the “Ripple Project” was meant to create and inspire learning and leadership opportunities for our Bartle students that would support them becoming more giving and kind, with the hope and expectation that others would equally be inspired to impact and change the life of someone (something) else in the process.
