Mission Statement

At SEPAG, our mission is to actively engage parents and guardians in their children's educational journey. We strive to create a supportive community where families can share information, experiences, and resources. Through peer assistance and collaboration, parents can voice their questions and concerns, fostering an enriching environment for every child’s growth and success.

Parenting a child with special needs and learning differences can be a lonely journey. Often times, families feel isolated and frustrated. SEPAG is here to make every effort to connect families with resources and education so that they may gain the knowledge and confidence needed to ensure their child’s highest level of achievement. Meetings are open to parents and community members.

SEPAG functions similarly to a PTA/O and provides supports and services to parents of special education children within all four schools in the Highland Park School District as well as those in out of district schools. The main focus of SEPAG is to help involve parents in their child’s educational experience and provide peer assistance to questions and concerns. SEPAG functions as an information network of parents and guardians sharing information, experiences, and resources in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

Who can join?

All parents and family members, teachers, and other school professionals, paraprofessionals, and any interested individuals seeking to learn more about special needs and/or learning difficulties are welcome to join. This includes:

  • Parents who have questions about their child’s needs, from the mildly impaired to the most significantly challenged.

  • Parents who want up-to-date information on Special Education programming, services, and IEPs.

  • Parents of children with health, social, and emotional challenges that affect their child’s education.

  • Parents who want to network with other special-needs parents.
