Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Susca highlighted two high school clubs during her presentation. Click here to view the presentation from DECA, where students shared about their projects and a recent trip to California. You can also view the presentation on the National Honors Society by clicking here. NHS empowers our students with knowledge and skills to be community leaders. Both DECA and NHS provide ways for our students to give back to the community, learn valuable life skills, and develop leadership qualities.
During the Superintendent’s report, Ms. Michele Rodrigues, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, presented the District’s School Performance Report data. Click here to view the presentation. We are reporting an enrollment growth at Irving due to the expansion of the preschool program and a significant increase in the number of students who are economically disadvantaged. Additionally, we are happy to see that there is an increase in the number of students meeting or exceeding the standard in ELA and Math at Bartle, as well as some of our student subgroups at the middle school meeting proficiency targets.
Curriculum & Instruction: The board approved multiple field trips and discussed Bartle’s Advanced Learning Program. Under ALP, all students at Bartle receive enrichment opportunities throughout the school year. These differ based on grade level and include:
Grades 2-5: Enrichment during specials in 4 core subjects often called “Extra Special”
Grades 2 & 3: Push in STEM Enrichment
Grade 4: 6 different ALP cycles (Literacy Ambassadors- Fiction, Citizen Scientists, and Art Installation Therapists)
Grade 5: FUSE Studio for science, Literacy Ambassadors- Informational Text, Health & Wellness Experts, and Musical Historians
This year 4th and 5th grade ALP students have been sharing their projects with younger grades at Bartle and at Irving! Families can learn more about ALP during Bartle’s Back to School Night.
Finance & Facilities: The board approved professional services for Mr. Gabe Hurley to present to 12th graders the consequences of distracted driving and Kathy Haynie to conduct a program evaluation on RISE (Therapeutic In-School Suspension Model). The board also approved a proposal for a structural evaluation at Bartle for the areas impacted by the collapse of the walkway ceiling leading into the back of the building. The district is moving as quickly as the professionals allow to get that area safe and functional.
Personnel & Communication:
All district staff were reappointed for the 24-25 school year. Transfer for some staff between schools and programs for the 24-25 school year was also approved.
