Superintendent’s Report: Ms. Pawlak attended the meeting to spotlight a very deserving high school student, Isaiah Castillo. Additionally, Beth Moroney wrote a book called “The Bridge to Victory,” a biography about her father, Jay Moroney as a tribute to the great coaches, teachers, administrators, athletes, and parents who contributed to making Highland Park an amazing place! Beth will be donating a copy of this book to the school library as well. 

Curriculum & Instruction: The board approved a school counseling intern for the Teen Center this fall from Monmouth University and approved the dates and duration of the two summer programs, Summer Holistic Intervention Program (SHIP) and Summer Teaching and Reinforcement (STAR) Extended School Year Program. Additionally, the district has adopted a change in the job description for Technology Technician. 

Finance &  Facilities: The Board approved the submission of the Interior Alterations and Addition at Irving to NJ Department of Education to help with funding preschool expansion.  Board voted to accept the donation from the Ida Kushmer Fund through the HP Educational Fund. This donation will be used to build an Environmental Sustainability Center at the high school in her memory.  Remaining funds will go to an outdoor pavilion at Irving. 

Personnel & Communication: The board would like to welcome two new staff members to the district. Trisha Gurukar who will be serving as a School Psychologist in the Educational Services Department and Kristen Linkletter who will be teaching Preschool at Irving this fall. 

The board voted to approve the contract between the Board of Education and the Highland Park Education Association for the period of July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2028.
