Superintendent’s Report: The Superintendent presented a draft of the District’s five year Strategic Plan. Comments and considerations for adjustments will be brought to the leadership team for discussion. The final version of the plan will be voted at the August 19, 2024 meeting. Click here to view the presentation. Additionally, the Superintendent reported on the district’s 2024 NJGPA and Access state test results. Click here to view the presentation and our test results which highlights that our 11th graders scored 7.6% higher than the state average in ELA and 4.2% higher than the state average in Mathematics. Additionally, we are excited to share that in ELA, at least 70% or more of the students in each sub group met or exceeded the cut score. 

Curriculum & Instruction: The Board approved robotics field trips for September, a change in the After School Director job description from part-time to full-time, and curriculum for the 2024-2025 year. The committee reported on two exciting new projects. The district was accepted for the NJ Inclusion Project at Irving School to support inclusive education and improve outcomes for students with disabilities. In addition, the district will be working in collaboration with Raising Hands Tutoring and the IMSE Foundation on a Literacy Lab Pilot that will support Orton-Gillingham trained teachers with meeting practicum requirements while providing OG tutoring to students are Bartle. 

Finance &  Facilities:  

The Board approved the purchase of $93,000 of network equipment, 60% of which is funded by a Schools and Library Grant, and $33,000 for new replacement cafeteria tables paid through the Cafeteria Fund. New Irving signs were approved, jointly funded by the Highland Park NPP Improvement Grant, Irving School PTO, and the Board. Also, the Board accepted the  Conditional Gift Agreement for the renovation of the High School Baseball Field. There are many maintenance and improvement facilities projects going on throughout the summer in the district schools, including high school roofing, Bartle HVAC, and the installation of a new preschool playground at Irving.
