As the leaves start to change and the year comes to an end, Highland Park’s current senior athletes begin to reminisce about positive memories they have experienced in their high school sports careers.
Lydia Lekhal, the girl’s varsity soccer captain, states that her “favorite sports team memory was this year during my senior night where we played a pretty tough opponent, Manville, and we were down 2-1, and our team did a really great job of keeping our heads up, and we eventually won 3-2.”
Elvis Lopez, a player on the boy’s baseball team, said, "seeing one of my close friends hit a homerun was amazing because everyone was so hyped.” Another player on the baseball team recalled the astonishing moment of “stepping onto the mound at TD Bank Ballpark.”
India Fields, a player on the girl’s softball team, remarked that her happiest memory was when she had two games in one day, “and after, we all had a softball sleepover and ate food together.”
Angeryca Concepcion, a member of the girl’s volleyball team, said her favorite memory was “when we had our first away game against a school bigger than ours. After our first victory, we never expected to have a second challenge, which was leaving the actual school. [It] took us 10 minutes to find an exit that led to a parking lot. I still laugh at the fact that one of our coaches had to run around the outside of the whole school to find our bus and the closest exit.”
Regardless of if a team won a game, spent time together, or shared an experience, the Highland Park seniors proved that anything could make an impact on someone no matter how great or small. These memories can last a lifetime.
