Ms. Alima Zimmer, the advisor of the high school’s African American Cultural Club, asked its members their thoughts on Black History Month. Through this discussion, the club members created a collective message:

Our nation observes Black History Month in February. With so much information available about the achievements of African Americans in our nation’s history and world history as well, we believe that Black History can be incorporated in various subjects in our high school curriculum. Highland Park is an ethnically diverse community. We feel that it is up to the faculty members to take the initiative during their class periods. It is wonderful to see some faculty members as well as students expressing their respect for people of color and their rightful place in our nation’s history.
