At the beginning of the year, the Highland Park Board of Education welcomed its three newest members: Sara Pixley, Nicole Stanio, and Ethan Schoolman. Dr. Pixley and Ms. Stanio expressed their gratitude for Highland Park’s close-knit community and provided The Fling with their goals for the district.
Dr. Pixley stressed that, due to COVID-19, some students did not learn as much as others. In her term, Dr. Pixley intends to focus on reducing learning gaps between students. She believes communication is key in garnering community support for children and families.
Ms. Stanio hopes to update the school’s curriculum, advocating for more challenging classes. She also believes it would be beneficial to have more trade-based classes, along with college preparatory courses.
Both Dr. Pixley and Ms. Stanio believe that there are interesting opportunities to offer more diverse, non-traditional learning that meets students where they are with both their interests and aptitudes.
