Highland Park High School provides its students with diverse opportunities to explore their interests and gain meaningful experiences for the future. Elliot Li, a senior at HPHS, is one such student who has taken advantage of these opportunities. He proudly leads the Mathletes, a competitive math team, and serves as a witness on the Mock Trial team. Elliot says, “These clubs get me to interact with tons of different people, and I am glad to be a part of all of them.”
Connecting with others has been important for Elliot during his high school years. “The most valuable lesson I've learned throughout high school is…learning how to communicate with people. That includes interacting with peers, teachers, and just others in general.”
At times, academic obligations and extracurriculars can become overwhelming. Elliot has found that finding the right balance between work and rest is paramount to a productive high school career. His advice for other students reflects this attitude: “Balance is everything…In general, if you take out two hours of your time each day for dinner/rest/socializing, and the end result is less than 6-8 hours of sleep, then it’s time to cut down on some things.”
Elliot’s time at HPHS will soon come to a close, so what’s next for him? “My plan after graduation is simple: take some time off, gain some job experience, and enjoy college life. I think there is a huge importance in both taking a decently-timed break and not relaxing too much; don't overwork, but remain proactive.” He intends to further his education at ___, studying __.
Elliot has gained abundant knowledge and skills through navigating high school and participating in various clubs. His experience at HPHS is a testament to the value of connecting with peers and effectively managing time.
