Mrs. Soler & Dr. Esteban

From October 24 - October 27, 2023, Dr. Ignacio Esteban and Mrs. Raysa Soler attended the Mextesol Conference, an international gathering of linguists, professors, and second language teachers where they shared research, best practices, and ideas to foster the development of language learning strategies and community collaboration. Highland Park High School was invited to speak about the online collaboration that we have maintained for more than ten years now with the UABIC, a secondary school in Merida, Yucatan. With the help of the Rutgers Graduate School of Education, and specifically Dr. Mary Curran, we have also participated in and created several community-based projects, including the book "De la Milpa a la Tortilla" to give voice to the indigenous community that lives in the south of Mexico.  Highland Park High School is very proud of the work our Spanish teachers are doing to make learning a second language authentic and engaging for our students as they communicate and collaborate with peers in Mexico!
