Outstanding Student

Kai Stevens is a remarkable student and well-rounded young man who adds life and learning to our school community.  He is a leader in every sense of the word who does it all and always with a smile on his face! A National Honor’s Society student, Kai has tutored a number of our students and completed many hours of service work through the Highland Park Youth Theatre company. In fact, Kai is most passionate about his work in theater starring in our school plays including the lead in our recent performance of "Footloose", and he even wrote a petition and collected signatures which helped start up the summer teen performance program by the Highland Park Theatre Company.  Kai also serves on our Mayor’s Teen Council where he discusses youth initiatives and provides feedback on how to facilitate teen communication and increase youth involvement in the community.

Kai has been awarded multiple honors as one of the best delegates in our school’s Model UN club. He has written articles and has served as the editor for our school newspaper, The Fling. He serves as a representative in Student Congress and has been his classes' president as well. He has helped plant the school garden for the Environmental Club, and he is a part of our Master Chorale. Kai is a truly remarkable student balancing all of these accomplishments with an amazing 4.64 GPA having taken eight AP and seven honors courses during his high school career!

Kai is always looking for ways to further himself and his education and has also served as a Research Intern at Rutgers University where he learns about evolutionary anthropology and laboratory techniques.  We look forward to all he will accomplish in the future, and Ms. Hayes, his counselor, and I can not think of no student more deserving of this recognition this year. The rest of our school administration and counseling department agreed and it was with great pleasure that we gave him this award at a banquet celebrating 22 other outstanding students from Middlesex county.
